Pareidolia Makes Me Grouchy

Sometimes seeing faces everywhere is fun. I mean, it’s kind of like living in a Muppet world, where everything from your cupboards to your vegetables has a personality.

But then again, sometimes it’s a bit disconcerting that everything from my cupboards to my vegetables has a personality.

I mean, take my fireplace.

Gas fireplace where the logs have been doodled to look like Oscar the Grouch. Word bubble says, "Scram!"

(Why yes, I do have a bit of a Muppet obsession, thank you for noticing.)

I mean, how fun is it to have a real life Sesame Street character living in your house?

An icon of children’s television.

A cute and cuddly (if grumpy) fuzzy friend. What’s not to like about that?

Oh dear god!

Same fireplace, only now the fire is lit, making the face look terrifying, especially with the red eyeballs doodled in. Speech bubble says, "There is no Oscar, only Zuul."

And that’s why pareidolia isn’t always amusing.

After all, it’s all fun and games until you start seeing demon Muppets from Hell everywhere.
